At the head of the valley is Cockley Beck where the two notorious passes of Wrynose and Hardknott meet, a drive not for the faint hearted! One of Cumbria's best drives is from Ulpha over Birker Fell into Eskdale, on a clear day affording spectacular views of the mountains of Scafell, Bowfell and Great Gable.
