Positive: This stay was pretty nice overall. The house is a great size for 3-4 people and has a great living room/kitchen area for relaxing after a day on hikes or at the lake. There is no AC but there's a big ceiling fan and vaulted ceilings that keep the house cool and there is a portable floor fan provided. A large table and bar would make it lovely for hosting a couple friends for dinner/drinks or between activities, though I believe the hosts would contact you if it was over 6 people total. The small deck in front was relaxing for morning coffee. The neighbors are pretty lovely as well. The rooms are spacious and all the amenities you could need are there. They company includes a little "starter box" with detergent, soap, and things. The location is a little tucked away but only a 15 minute drive to the beaches. This keeps it peaceful but not the most convenient if you forget something on your way out. The house has a small enclosed foyer with a small closet for taking off shoes and coats which would be really nice in the winter though it did feel cumbersome in the summer. The garage is a good size (they say there is one spot in the garage and 2 tandem spots in the driveway) and helpful to store the car if bears are a concern. We definitely saw coyotes. They even have some tubes and things in the garage for guests to use. I didn't find the place to be dirty like some other reviews said so perhaps they got a better cleaning crew. I did have some qualms but overall, it's a lovely spot and made us nostalgic to own a vacation home like this some day.
Negative: My main issue was that the pet fee amount was not discussed upfront in the lease agreement. They did not mention it even when I had been in contact with the company to see if they would be able to allow friends' 2 additional dogs. They tried to charge $300 for two 10 lb dogs. That seems excessive as other area hotels I've stayed at only have a $50 per pet per stay fee. They ended up walking it back to $150 for both dogs, but my understanding going into this was that the fee for 2 dogs was included and more than 2 dogs would trigger a pet fee. This was a big cost consideration for me and could have swayed my choice if I knew upfront. I didn't like that I kept getting messages and calls during my stay saying that the owners have cameras and could see I have two dogs so I needed to pay the fee. I was attending a wedding and this service caused extra stress and negativity on an already busy and sentimental weekend. The property is a little old with a porch/deck/entry that could stand to be updated. It seems like the first step and ADA ramp are made of creaky ply wood and the paint was peeling. The lock to the garage door was broken so we had to coordinate to pull cars in and out. The fans in the bathroom are loud and the bathrooms are dated. The laundry is coin operated but they provide the coins and removed the holder so you can use the drier and washer freely. I would suggest bringing a couple extra towels as the ones provided are on the thinner end. There were some small issues/quirks here and there but largely easy to overcome. Nothing besides the pet fee would be a deal breaker for me.
