The famous artist John Constable spent his honeymoon here in 1816 during which time he completed his painting of Weymouth Bay which now hangs in the National Gallery in London. Carved into the hillside near the village, is a figure of King George III on horseback, with the chalk figure showing the King riding his horse Adonis which was cut into the ground to commemorate the Royal visits to Weymouth and the prosperity they brought to the area.
