Easy to get to (even in Winter), it is close to the festival town of Ulverton and within a 20 minute journey to Coniston. Slightly further afield, but easy to reach by car, are the Central Lakes (Windemere, Bowness, Ambleside, Grasmere and Rydal). Alternatively you can take the train up the fabulous West Coast. Recommended rail destinations are: Ravenglass and L'aal Ratty; Maryport with its Aquarium and Roman Museum and Whitehaven with the Rum Museum. There are several nice walks in between stations for a hop on, hop off type of day.
