You can easily walk to the Oceanside Pier (and the lovely Ruby's Diner) or to the Marina (with all sorts of yachts coming and going plus a dozen restaurants). The Coaster (commuter train) is less than a mile away which can take you right to downtown San Diego. No busy streets to cross for beach access.
