tarbert, just a few minutes’ drive from the cottage, boasts a distillery and two hotels, all with cafés/restaurants There are also several takeaways in Tarbert along with a bank, doctors’ surgery, post office, petrol station, two groceries and a Harris tweed shop; this is also the arrival point for the ferry from Uig. The Isle of Harris boasts some of the most outstanding scenery on the Western Isles, combined with some of the world’s most outstanding beaches to enjoy. There are many excellent walking routes and the quiet country roads are ideal for cyclists. There is also a large selection of activities available – whatever your preferred outdoor pursuit may be including golf, pony trekking, wild swimming and kayaking to name but a few. The Isle of Harris, famous for its Harris tweed, shares the Isle with Lewis to the North. The thriving fishing town of Stornoway offers plenty of shops/cafés and restaurants, and Lewis Castle in the centre is worth a walk around to enjoy the beautiful woodlands.
