Positive: Excellent views. Comfortable beds. Good quality furnishings. Good access to Ambleside.

Negative: The next door neighbour! He was standing outside our car before I had even switched off the engine and proceeded to bore and lecture us about exactly where and how he wanted us to park on the drive, preventing us from getting into the house for at least 15 minutes on a bitterly cold day. This totally spoiled the start of our stay before we even entered the house. He seemed to think he had some sort of unofficial guide and welcome status - his presence was neither requested nor wanted and he asked us various questions including our length of stay which were none of his business. The property owners really need to talk to him to stop this nonsense. In addition, the oven had not been cleaned, we had to wash a number of plates and bowls before we could use them, the soap dispenser in the upstairs bathroom was empty and the shower mat in the upstairs bathroom had black mould on it. Considering a price in excess of £200 per night the lack of provision of a second toilet roll in each bathroom is miserly. There is a fault with the central heating system which caused it to bang very loudly for several minutes before seven a.m. every day, waking everyone up - this needs to be investigated and fixed.
