This villa (Cottage does not adequately describe this stunning property of 1,800 Ft.of sheer luxury) along with its own long stretch of Private river, its 2 savanna-style treehouses, one of which overlooks the riverbank, with private fishing, private mooring for kayaks/canoes; timber decking and 200 foot elevated railed walkway along a section of the river leading to its own little 'beach' area positioned in the middle of the river with stunning close far-reaching river views down and upriver, ancient woodland on both riverbanks, in total and utter seclusion in these 1.6 acres of landscaped gardens (plus additional 4 acres of riverside meadow - attached to the gardens which are ideal for recreational walks and sports - in addition to the gardens themselves) dotted with wild flowers, indigenous shrubs, trees and plants that are a haven for wildlife and songbirds with the river flowing through for over 700 metres width of the incredibly beautiful gardens that also has in addition its own stream leading down to the river with an arched Wicklow granite vehicular bridge spanning the stream along with two rustic wooden bridges - the stream bisecting the gardens which then runs into the Avonbeg River which meanders the entire length of the cottage gardens; a pond and its own family of pheasants wandering in the shrubbery with the occasional shy elegant deer to to be found also roaming through this wonderful habitat, makes this a truly unique and very precious place in which to be and to feel truly alive and free. Colin O’Mahony’s 3D R Virtual reality internal walk throughs are excellent in offering the feeling of actually being there - these walkthroughs also show the verandah and more of the gardens in full bloom and can be viewed and ‘walked through’ within the cottage itself and then into the porch, following the gravelled pathway to the left which guides you then to the treehouse overlooking the river. The walls were forged from the river stone and Wicklow granite that was hewn from the local quarries, with the gravelled chippings around the cottage also coming from the same sources, the silver glints in the granite showing the history of the area which was once, in ancient times, mined for silver and gold and also the rich fertility and beauty of its land being a source of turmoil and possession throughout Irish history until the last century when peace was hard won by the Irish people whose leaders had wills of granite and hearts full of compassion, as do most Irish people, they brim with humanity and kindness interwoven with with hard work combined with a sense of humour and twinkly eyes. The valleys and mountains of this area are steeped in the history of a proud people and strong leaders, both men who women who had dignity but who also knew how to laugh and enjoy life even in hard times, and they still do along with an unmatched sense of humour and warmth, particularly in challenging times such as exists today, where the human spirit must remain strong whilst keeping the word ‘liberty’ and ‘human rights’ to the fore - so hard to win, so easy to lose. Attractions in this area of County Wicklow: Once behind the 18-foot high electronic timber gate, the sense of seclusion, utter peace and beauty is unsurpassed: however the local area abounds with many attractions among which are: Brittas Bay within a 25-minute drive, offering a broad expanse of golden beaches; ethereal Glendalough, the site of St. Kevin's monastic ruins and lakes; Charles Stewart Parnell's Avondale House, Parnell being the 'Uncrowned King of Ireland'; The famous Meetings pub; Avoca Wollen Mills, one of the oldest mills in Ireland that produces wonderful textiles with a fabulous cafe serving luscious food. A warm (appropriately distanced) welcome on arrival will be given by a very welcoming local lady who will have a selection of locally produced, freshly made, artisan bread and cake along with a great bottle of pink or white champagne. Avoca Woollen Mills in the quaint village of Avoca is not to be missed along with another Avoca in the sublime Mount Usher complex of unique shops at the edge of the worldfamous Mount Usher’s beautiful gardens in Ashford then on the N11 itself in Kilmacanogue, a stupendously impressive Emporium of amazing wares and foods which must be the Avoca brand’s flagship store. Powerscourt Demesne in attractive Enniskerry village with its fabulous gardens, waterfall and stately house which is breathtaking in its scale and beauty. The aristocracy of the time didn’t just go for ‘A Room With A View’ - they went for ‘A County with A View’ and all that was in it. Then there is the historic Glenmalure Lodge set in the wild mountains of Glenmalure where one can enjoy good food and traditional music in a wonderful setting which evokes the past so vividly in the paintings and writings on the thick ancient walls that bear witness to Ireland's past. Then there is Kilmacurragh near Rathdrum the National Gardens of Ireland which is inextricably linked to The Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin in Dublin, the twin pillars of Botanical evolution and reverence for the flora and fauna of Ireland together with specimens of shrubs, trees and plants which were imported to Ireland by avid planthunters who trawled the mountains, forests, savannahs and tropical jungles of the world, in their quest to discover and capture the natural beauty of those faraway lands, which was then an often daunting endeavour with no guarantee of the survival of the planthunter let alone the actual plant! But that is another story.. Wells House near Gorey further along the coast but no more than a 40 minute drive, is an example of a classic house created post-Reformation in the 1600's, a mere blink away in the infinity of time. Further along towards the seaside town of Bray lies the grandeur of Kilruddery House and its fabulous house which is so elegant and beautiful and which holds regular markets selling local produce and crafts. Nearer to the cottage in Aughrim village is the weekly Saturday market also selling top quality local produce. Horse-riding; canoeing; kayaking; water-sports; mountain-biking; swimming, fishing; sailing; Michelin-starred restaurants and lively pubs with music or quiet quaint pubs are all within a short drive. And hopefully they will be open in the next week or two for that well-deserved frothy pint of Guinness in convivial surroundings, that is missed by so many - for the company of others is inimical to being human so the powers that be, don’t take away our humanity!!.
