Summary: Turning onto the dirt road leading up to the gate of Podere Bellosguardo, my heart soared. Rolling hills painted in exquisite and glorious shades of green, speckled with row upon row of neatly tended grape vines and perfectly manicured olive groves extended for miles. Atop distant hills nestled amidst the grand clusters of Italian cypress, estates and villages could be seen in the distance. We were pleasantly greeted at the gate by Milena and her son as they graciously welcomed us onto their property and into their spectacular villa. We arrived to a feast of meat, cheese, olives and focaccia along with a fine bottle of Chianti from the area. Later in the week, Leo, Milena’s husband baked us a most delicious prune tart. The formidable stone, wood and iron building draped in wisteria appeared as if it had leapt from the pages of a classic novel, outfitted inside and out with every convenience necessary for a most inviting stay; a fully equipped kitchen, beautiful ceramic plates, glassware and flatware, a massive fireplace, and quilt filled cabinets for chilly evenings and mornings, charming photographs of the family throughout, vaulted ceilings, gas stove and grill, and the beautiful back patio and pool. While it was too cool to swim, it was delightful eat dinner outside and to spend the early evenings on the balcony watching the swallows swoop in for a drink from the pool as the sunset melted the Tuscan landscape into hypnotic shades of orange, gold, green and purple. The warmth of Milena combined with her attendance to every detail and the comfort of her guests can not be overstated. While it was my first trip to Italy, I felt like I was arriving home to a beloved relative. I highly recommend experiencing this enchanting villa and its most welcoming hosts. Centrally located to explore Monteriggioni, Volterra, San Gimignano, Radda, Castellina in Chianti, the vineyards and wineries, Pisa, Siena and Florence with time left over in the late afternoon/evening to luxuriate at the villa and enjoy a delicious evening meal at home, it was the perfect base to launch from. We even took a day trip to the coastal towns of Cinque Terre. I am forever grateful to have experienced Tuscany from the stately Podere Bellosguardo and to have been attended to with such great care by it’s magnificent guardians. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
