Travel Purpose: business

Positive: I booked via booking for 4 nights and extended to avoid hassle of moving to hotel. I liked there was a decent washing machine, microwave and property was 3 minutes from Raml tram station, KFC and McDonald's. Trams cost EGP 5 (EGP 4 for locals) for one trip, yes just EGP 5 (very very cheap, smoother travel and better than taxi drivers that rob tourists).

Negative: Owner (young male) lives in same apartment not mentioned in the advertisement. Early check-in at 0300 to 0500 hrs was agreed at no extra cost but upon arrival the owner sought payment of an extra night, I was given a room without a bathroom from 0500 - 1400 hrs. I booked additional 3 nights (due to late checkout at 2300 on the second day) . The owner insisted cash / bank transfer payment and insisted I pay for 4 nights to compensate early check-in, I paid for 4 nights to avoid arguments. Towels are not provided daily, cordless iron / board arrived late were passable. Value for money is debatable per being a house share (not suitable for families or females), internet is weak and additional night charge (for just 9 hrs) is plainly wrong. I was on business so did not spend much time inside property. Owner insisted on taking photo of my passport that I complied to to avoid arguments but this is unusual and Egypt has no data protection laws. I attach photo of front entrance and view from apartment (sea view is from reception room only). Travel advice to foreigners. Alexandria is a city full of scammers from clerks at court, taxi drivers, tour guides. I faced a threat to life from a local man seeking money yet police were useless, weak.
