Positive: If you are curious to experience what staying in a Soviet era hotel might be like, then you have to spend a night a Chishinau Hotel - give it a go, it's quite the experience. Thought it was fine considering the cost is quite reasonable and excellent location. I had a good view of the square from my room and to my surprise, the bed was really comfortable. For breakfast, you get a coffee plus small bag with four sweet and savoury pastries from the cafe. If you need a more substantial breakfast, best go to Placinte, which is excellent, good value and just up the main road. There is a 24-hour mini market next door which is well stocked and you are right by the stop to catch the 30 bus to and from the airport. I had read some people found the doors were closed at night but this was not the case when I got back late. Overall, I am glad I stayed as wanted to experience something a bit different.

Negative: I have read reviews that mentioned it takes up to 20-minutes to get hot water. I am afraid this remains the case. My advice is turn the tap on as soon as you arrive and each time you get back to your room. The bathroom was painted gloss white but usable. Also, there was only a small plug in heater which I did not use. I was fine with an extra blanket but having visited in March, would recommend staying May-September and avoid winter. If you're looking for a 'normal' hotel with other facilities, I suggest you don't come.
