Positive: Chalé del Mar is located at the far end of Praia Quarta, which in our view is the nicest beach in Morro de São Paulo. It is a beautiful, tranquil, and unspoilt tropical beach, very quiet and relaxing, which we really loved. While it is around 4 km from Morro, taxis are readily available, making it easy to get into town when needed. We also found that the restaurants along Praia Quarta were excellent — in fact, the three we visited were noticeably better than those on Praia Segunda or in town. In addition Vera and her husband are warm, welcoming hosts and were very helpful throughout our stay. We enjoyed dealing with them and we were very impressed with the huge welcome fruit and bubbles they provided!
Negative: We were so disappointed with Chale del Mar and had such high expectations after seeing the lovely photos on their listing. We were expecting a large detached beach front chalet with a sea view hot tub and small pool. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. In fact. it’s a one of two Airbnb style annexes attached to the owners house, 100m from the beach, overlooking an untidy development site with no sea view or even sea breeze. We therefore feel it’s important to share some clarifying information about the accommodation so future guests know exactly what they are booking. Chalé del Mar consists of two separate rental units attached to the owners’ house. One unit faces towards the sea and the other faces inland; we stayed in the inland-facing unit. The differences between the units were not readily apparent to us when booking because the descriptions are opaque. Though its worth noting that the sea-facing unit is screened from the sea by a privacy palm hedge, so it is only slightly preferable to the inland-facing unit. Much more importantly because the units are annexes to the main house you don’t get much privacy. Sitting on the terrace you can be seen by the occupants of the other unit and by the owners, their visitors and staff coming and going. Even more disappointing is that neither unit is directly on the beach. The property is set around 100 metres back from the seafront, and the entire site overlooks an open field which appears likely to be developed in the near future. This is worth being aware of, as it affects both the outlook and the overall feel of the location. The size of the unit was also disappointing. The listing states “Entire Chalet – 90 m²” and describes the accommodation as spacious. We later understood that this figure includes the outside garden and terrace areas, rather than just the internal accommodation space. So expect a compact 25m2 space more in line with a small studio-style annex than a full chalet.
Summary: Incredibly disappointed. Property does not match description.
