Positive: This apartment is right in the center of Amarante, next to the church - but hej, you dont hear the bells ringing at all !! Its a spacious apartment with 2 bedrooms, two toilets and showers, a kitchen and two livingrooms. The kitchen is very well equipped with fridge, coffee machine and cooker (but restautants in town are lovely). When you get out of the apartment, its just a 2 minute walk to the bridge going into the main street where great restaurants are plentyful. Amarante itself has a few highlights but its a nice peaceful, authentic place to come back to in the evening to relax. We found Amarante an ideal location for discovering the various highlights of the Douro valley. Central to the various places such as Pinhao, 516 Arouca bridge and boardwalk, Lamego and the Fisgas de Ermelo loopwalk. Even Porto is just only a 50 mins drive away. Parking is on the street where sometimes can be busy, although we always found a spot nearby.
Negative: We had a great 8 days in Casa Valverde - all was perfect.
